Poem: Trades

Trades
“My son, do not forget my teaching,
But let your heart keep my commandments;
For length of days and years of life
And peace they will add to you.”
— Proverbs 3:1–2
What shall we trade our peace for?
A TV show? Surely not.
Food to eat? Goods to consume?
Most definitely no.
A woman to please?
Tempted, but not surely.
For peace is such a thing
that no other thing compares to it.
There is no other item,
there is no other experience,
there is no other person
that is comparable to peace.
Therefore, praise the Prince of Peace
and never trade him up —
and your days shall be many,
with his peace, steady.
